M.A. in Prakrit

Course Introduction

A two-year postgraduate programme in Prakrit — Dedicated study of the ancient Prakrit languages — the mother tongue of Jain scriptures and one of India's oldest literary traditions.

Course Objectives

• Master grammar, vocabulary and literary forms of Prakrit.
• Read and interpret canonical Jain texts in the original Prakrit.
• Study the historical and cultural context of Prakrit literature.
• Develop translation and editorial expertise.
• Develop advanced research and analytical capabilities at the postgraduate level.
• Prepare students for doctoral studies or specialised careers.

Eligibility

10+2+3 or its equivalent with 45% marks in aggregate.

Graduates can read, translate and critically analyse Prakrit literature and serve as expert resources for Jain studies institutions.
