Course Introduction

A doctoral research programme in Prakrit — Dedicated study of the ancient Prakrit languages — the mother tongue of Jain scriptures and one of India's oldest literary traditions.

Course Objectives

  • Master grammar, vocabulary and literary forms of Prakrit.
  • Read and interpret canonical Jain texts in the original Prakrit.
  • Study the historical and cultural context of Prakrit literature.
  • Develop translation and editorial expertise.
  • Undertake original, publishable research that contributes new knowledge to the field.
  • Master advanced research methodology and academic writing.

Eligibility

Masters Degree in concerned subject with 55% marks and UGC NET (all categories i.e. NET JRF/NET/NET only for Ph.D.).

Learning Outcomes

Graduates can read, translate and critically analyse Prakrit literature and serve as expert resources for Jain studies institutions.
